Sometimes you lose touch. But how to make your friendships last longer? There are way through which you can sustain your friendships but they aren’t a guarantee.

No matter what ways said do remember, it’s sometimes important to walk away.

LEARN TO COMMUNICATE OPENLY

The most obvious reason why friendships and even relationships break is lack of communication. When you refuse to talk about what is bothering you or simply what is going on in your life, it leads to the formation of a gap that can’t be bridged. It will lead to misunderstandings and a blame cycle which will inevitably cause your friendship to end. Learn to talk more openly to your friends. Be honest and willing.

EMBRACE CHANGE

As time will pass, a lot will change in your life. This includes your friends. They won’t be the same as they were when you first met them. You all go through the ups and downs of life, sometimes together and sometimes separately. That changes who you are. You and your friends are evolving and maturing with time. Some for the better and some for the worse. It’s hard to accept that sometimes. Try to embrace these changes. Try to accept your friends for the person they are. This will solidify your friendship.

BE PATIENT

A lot of friendships come to an end because of a lack of patience and tolerance. When you get in a fight with your friend, both of you strongly believe that you are right. Along the way, you both undermine each other and lose your tempers. But whenever something happens, think rationally. Why did your friend react the way they did? Is something wrong in their life they aren’t telling you about? Or it was you at fault but to prove your point you refuse to admit it? Ego and jealousy and no place in a friendship. You have a choice to let ego win or your friendship win. Be patient with them and notice the obvious improvement in your friendship.

SUPPORT THEM

Sometimes you don’t realise that you are being unsupportive of certain decisions made by your friends because you don’t believe it’s the right choice. The truth is, you may be right. But that’s not what matters. As part of an honest conversation, you should tell them how you feel. Put forward your points and give them a chance to ponder over it. After that if they still want to go ahead with the decision they made, as a friend you should support them. Subconsciously, you actions might be unsupportive. Learn to respect others choices and space. Your friend is an individual with the right to make their own decisions for their life.

At the end of the day, trust, support and open conversations can only help move a friendship forward. The moment you lose any one the them, you lose all of it.
