Identifying a Nationalist and a Patriot!

Nationalist; a person who strongly identifies with their own nation and vigorously supports its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations. whereas Patriot; a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.

Similar yet different.

My father has given me a complete Right and say in however I want to lead my life. In return, it is my duty that I do not break his trust and do the right thing. In the same way, all the citizens of India have got the Fundamental rights and say, the basic civil liberties of the people, are protected under the charter of rights contained in Part III (Article 12 to 35) of the Constitution of India. The Indian Penal Code and other laws prescribe punishments for the violation of these rights, subject to the discretion of the judiciary so we enjoy these rights.

We also have  Fundamental Duties,  defined as the moral obligations of all citizens to help promote the spirit of patriotism and to uphold the unity of India, etc. The  Fundamental Duties are, however,  not legally enforceable that’s why we don’t practice this.  We all call ourselves nationalists and patriots but we are not practicing FUNDAMENTAL DUTY.  So how can we call ourselves true nationalists or patriots?

Just Celebrating Independence day, showing off on social media or by singing the national anthem, is it sufficient to become a true nationalist or patriot? I believe, a person who is religiously practising FUNDAMENTAL DUTY, understanding the needs of the nation that person would be true nationalist or patriot.

Identifying a Nationalist and a Patriot!

There are a few pages on social media that are pseudo-liberal and hypocritical. Their so-called “liberalism” and “humanism” take the opposite turn when it comes to a different religion because their wisdom is limited by one particular intellectual thought which actually tries to misguide people and fulfil their malicious goals. Many people also follow them as it provides them with the “masala” content.

The problem actually is initiated when the citizens start getting aggregated on or trusting the information given on those sites. It creates a great hindrance in achieving social harmony as it would create clashes between different schools of thought and having faith in different schools of thought is good but building hatred amongst each other will bring chaos in society. People should understand and present all the different aspects of a situation concerned so that people with full knowledge could decide for themselves, what is wrong or right rather trying out the infamous spread hate get popular rage among different communities.

Are they spreading peace or social harmony or they are Patriot?

No, doing these kinds of activities is not called patriotism and you aren’t a nationalist.

Government alone, judiciary or any other institution cannot make India world leader alike U.S. and Russia. There is an urgent need to spread awareness among people about FR and FD. If we take responsibility to spread peace and present neutral views in public domain then it could be called Nationalism or Patriotism. Nationalism is to foster peace and lending hand for nation-building. If this could be done religiously by citizens, then we would very soon see the peace and support of people in favour of spreading love instead of hatred or communal thoughts. This could be the real patriotism for us.

Take the pledge by sharing this article. I am not a contractor of any religion. I am a contractor of humanity for myself by my act and practice humanity. Just act understand humanity, the world will be a better place to live…
