Super seeds are affordable and easily available in the market. Let’s go through a few of these super seeds and their benefits along with ideas to include them in your daily diet.

Flax seeds

Flaxseed is one of those super seeds you don’t want to miss! People often give it away as bird food without knowing its health benefits. Flax seeds help in the prevention of cancer, improving cholesterol levels, and controlling blood sugar, and others. These seeds have become a good vegetarian source of omega 3 fatty acids and fiber.

Now that we know why should we consume it, here’s how to consume to get the best out of it.

All the maal-masala is present in the outer shell which is not easily digested. So its recommended to grind it into a powder and consume. You can use it as a topping for your salads, yogurts and also include in baking while making muffins and breads for the extra healthy punch.

Chia seeds

Often known as sabja in most parts of India, these are considered one of the healthiest seeds on the planet. These tiny seeds pack in 10 grams of fibre in a 2-tablespoon serving. They also contain proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, and zinc.

They help in regulating blood sugar levels, prevent diabetes, improves cardiovascular health, boosts energy and metabolism.

You can soak them in lukewarm water for 10-15 min and have it before breakfast and dinner. You can also at them in your smoothies, cereal, and yogurt. Use them as a topping for your juices and also try making chia pudding for your dessert cravings this summer.

Pumpkin seeds a.k.a Kaddu ke beej are rich in nutrients and provide many health benefits including controlling diabetes, enhancing weight loss, promoting digestion, and preventing insomnia. Toasted pumpkin seeds have proven to be a great chhoti-moti bhookh snack! Flavour it with salt-pepper or just mix it with your homemade granola bars. These are also a great topping for various sweet dishes and salads. Be careful and keep a watch on the portion as they are high in calories!

Sesame seeds

These super seeds are one of the oldest cultivated plants of the world. These seeds contain antioxidants that protect your liver from damage and serve as a good source of calcium. Sesame seeds help in triggering hair growth, improving skin health, boosting digestion, healthy dental and bone health.

 Sunflower Seeds as Super Seeds

This super seed, known as Suraj Mukhi ke beej in Hindi, is the best source of vitamin-E. These provide a host of benefits including promotion of healthy skin, fighting against cancer, combating bone loss, and balancing blood sugar level.

Sunflower seeds also prevent asthma, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. High in magnesium, they treat headaches and migraines along with promoting healthy teeth and bones.

Because of their high fat content sunflower seeds become rancid quickly. It is best to store them in the refrigerator. Roasted sunflower seeds are often consumed as a snack. Aside from salad toppings, you can add sunflower seeds to muffins or bread recipes, in vegetable dishes or stir-fry, and in cereals or yogurt. Try crushed sunflower seeds as a tasty gluten-free coating for fish or chicken.
