After the Kiki challenge madness of last summer, Internet is flooding with videos of yet another crazy, absolutely no sense making challenge and that is the “Bottle cap challenge.” And what I grab from my research is that, this challenge is here to stay and entertain your way out of this boring scorching summer. Didn’t hear about it because you were busy snoozing off most of the summer or maybe nobody challenged you for it? No worries, this article by yours truly will get you on speed with all the details. WHAT IS THIS “BOTTLE CAP CHALLENGE MADNESS”?
Well it is like any other athletically demanding challenge that eventually becomes a social media frenzy! This challenge has participants attempting to somehow unscrew a bottle cap with their foot in the midst of a swift roundhouse kick. What is more exciting about the challenge is that now apparently it is not limited to unscrewing the cap with the foot. Participants are coming up with weirdly fascinating ways to do it, totally raising the bar like using a disc or even doing it blindfolded. Like it was not already difficult to unscrew the cap with a kick. Duhhhh!!!
Like every other social media challenge, you perform it and then nominate a few others to accept the challenge.
The New York Times explained that challenge’s origin is unclear but it is a known fact that it circulated initially in martial arts circles. According to reports, it may have started with Kazakh Taekwondo champion Farabi Davletchi, but he used a different hashtag for it #farakickschallenge. He nominated Statham, Connor McGregor, Jean Claude Van Damme and Jackie Chan in his video. The challenge then picked up speed on social media with plenty of celebrities taking part in it and became this summer’s social media highlight.
Many celebrities could be seen uploading the challenge videos online and this includes our very own Bollywood mega stars too like Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan etc.
Before kicking the cap off, Justin Bieber declares “This is going to be Tom Cruise’s head!” The artist then nominated Cruise and his wife Hailey Bieber in the caption. Cruise has yet to respond to the battle cry.
This is something exciting. Tiger Shroff blindfolded himself and performed the challenge. Truly unbelievable.

Riteish did it in a funny way. Riteish Deshmukh shared the video of Akshay Kumar performing the challenge and claiming it’s him doing wearing Akshay Kumar’s mask. However, Akshay Kumar response was way too hilarious.

Salman Khan also took to social media to share his own version of #bottlecapchallenge captioni ng it, “Don’t thakao paani bachao”.

It is somewhat astonishing to witness how anything, literally anything picks up pace and popularity on social media be it #10YearsChallenge or the latest social media frenzy #bottlecapchallenge. We s
ee both the common public and celebrities participate and eventually everybody comes to know about these challenges. But don’t you think we could use THE ULTIMATE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA to promote something more useful or maybe something that requires our immediate attention and serves a big cause?
I don’t see the famous Ice bucket challenge serving any purpose other than “Entertainment”. We did see the spin off of ice bucket challenge, “Rice bucket challenge” but sadly we didn’t see it getting much popular.
It is high time that we realize that besides the entertainment part that we so consistently indulge in, there are certain topics that could be made up into a challenge to spread the awareness that they righteously deserve.
